Prof. Alexander Scheffold’s ERC Advanced Grant supports research on regulatory T cells, which protect the body from autoimmune attacks. In autoimmune diseases, this protection fails, causing inflammation and tissue damage.
His project aims to identify the specific self-structures that these cells recognize, to develop new therapies that activate regulatory T cells and prevent harmful immune responses.
Beginning October 2025, Alexander will establish the new department "Technical Immunology" at TU Berlin, a key stone for the Si-M.
